Magda Konieczna studies democracy and the evolving news business. Her book, Journalism Without Profit: Making News When the Market Fails (Oxford University Press, 2018), examines the role and context of nonprofit news organizations in the United States. She has also studied cross-newsroom collaborations in Philadelphia, and is in the midst of a project about nonprofit news and collaboration in Europe. She teaches undergraduate courses in news writing and journalism entrepreneurship, as well as communication courses to masters and PhD students at Temple University. Prior to starting her PhD at the University of Wisconsin, she was a city hall reporter at the now defunct Guelph Mercury in Ontario, Canada.
