Bio:

A.J. Bauer holds a PhD in American Studies from NYU, where his dissertation “Before ‘Fair and Balanced’: Conservative Media Activism and the Rise of the New Right” received support from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and American Council of Learned Societies. He is co-editor, with Anthony Nadler, of News on the Right: Studying Conservative News Cultures (under contract, Oxford University Press). He uses archival and ethnographic methods to investigate the links between historical and contemporary right-wing and conservative movements in the United States, with a special emphasis on conservative news and media activism. His writing has appeared in American Journalism, Social Text: Periscope, The New Inquiry, and The Guardian.
